VHF RadioVHF Radio

Over the past few years, marine communications have been revolutionized by the introduction of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). This system is designed to ensure that ships anywhere can communicate with a rescue co-ordination centre. Whilst yachts and small craft are not required to carry radios, if they do, they are required to be competent and qualified to use it. This half day, RYA Short Range VHF (including GMDS) radio users course covers the rules and procedures with practical training and computer simulation.

RYA First AidRYA First Aid

This RYA First Aid course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for all those who go afloat, on inland waters or up to 60 miles offshore whatever type of vessel you are in. The syllabus is based on the recommendations of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). The certiicate fulfils the requirements of the MCA Code of Practise for the skippers of small commercial vessels up to category 2 and for all RYA practical instructors.

Engine MaintenanceEngine Maintenance

These bespoke engine maintenance courses have been introduced to provide skippers and boat users with a basic knowledge and understanding of outboard and inboard marine engines. Both programmes are one day long and cover the fundamentals of fault finding, common problems, routine maintenance, winterization as well as some "quick fix" techniques while afloat. These programmes are not designed to enable you to be able to undertake a full strip and service of your engine - far from it. We recommend that you leave that to the experts. However, they are designed to potentially get you started again and out of trouble, and ensure that you can look after your investment in the best way.
